about

Concepts behind 'The Four Questions' by Zohar's Nigun (interview with Daniel Weltlinger, September 2012):

This is pianist Daniel Pliner's composition. Daniel is one of my favourite musicians (and people) to play with. We have been playing music together for more than 15 years and he has had a very large part in putting together Zohar's Nigun. His parents were born in South Africa (although Daniel is born in Australia), and they financed much of this recording after hearing the band play some years ago. Daniel and I have been writing music together for a very long time. Like me, Daniel is from a traditional family and is a fatalistic, slightly kabbalistic character although perhaps he is not quite as traditional leaning as me. This is a typically beautiful composition from Daniel, and even though the title was an afterthought, it brilliantly captures the feeling of being a 'wanderer' - which you can look at as being the Jewish diaspora experience, the Australian experience, the musician experience, etc..
